Introduction

This Festival, to be annually held, will be conducted as part of the activities on the International Day of Senior Adults, which takes place on October.

Objective: To attain a sport, cultural and academic integration among the different Senior Adults’ groups linked to the Physical, Recreational, Cultural and Social Activity programs through the development of physical and sports activities. To consider these activities as a healthy practice with a therapeutic, rehabilitating and aesthetic goal, in addition to being a way to improve health, make a good use of the leisure time, promote happiness and friendliness among the countries of our geographical area.

 

Physical Activities:

  • Sports at dawn.
  • Senior Adults’ Physical Activity Class Contest.
  • Gymnastic Activities Contest.
  • Sports Festival: in 3 categories

1st Category: 50- 60 years

2nd Category: 61- 70 years

3rd Category: over 71 years

Note: In order to conduct this activity, 4 participants per category (as a minimum) should be present.

  1. Cachibol
  2. Athletics
  3. Swimming
  4. Water volleyball
  5. Table tennis
  6. Chess
  7. Domino

 

Regulations

Competition will be conducted in 7 sports activities:

  1. Cachibol: Competition will be conducted as per the international official regulation. Teams, either of a single sex or mixed, will be composed of 8 players (6 regular and 2 reserve).
  2. Athletics: Competition will be conducted in the official track and throwing area, in 2 disciplines:

–          Throwing of balls with one hand: 80 grams ball for women and 120 grams ball for men. Three categories in both genders.

–          Walk: Quick walk, keeping always a support in the surface. Three categories in both genders.

1st category – 1200 m

2nd category – 800 m

3rd category – 400 m

  1. Swimming: Freestyle and backstroke, 25 m. Three categories in both genders.
  2. Water Volleyball, Mixed: Team composed of 8 players (4 women & 4 men) but only 6 of them play at a time (although all 8 players have to play).  This is a 3-set game (to win 2 of them) of 11 points each.
  3. Table tennis: Individual competition in the men and women event, in the 3 categories:

1st Category: 50- 60 years

2nd Category: 61- 70 years

3rd Category: over 71 years

  1. Chess: Individual competition in the men and women event, in a single category (all ages).
  2. Domino: International domino of 28 pieces, through the Swiss system, 200 point. Free couples per country.

Cultural Activities:

  • Presentation of traditional dances from the country or region.
  • Presentation of autochthonous games from the country or region.
  • Queen and King Competition
  • Craftsmanship Fair: Presentation of hand-made items – paintings, knitting, etc.- in which people show their skills (bring raw materials for in situ making).
  • Singing, poem and popular folk song contest (2 representatives per delegation).

 

Academic Activities:

  • Opening lecture: Club 120 Años (120 Year Old Club): The Cuban experience of attention to the Senior Adult.
  • Round table: Senior Adults’ Physical activity and health: current challenges of the society.
  • Free oral topics
  • Posters presentation
  • Video presentation: “Exhibition of Experiences”

 

Guidelines for the Presentation of Paper:

  1. Papers, to be sent to the Scientific Committee, should be presented in one of three formats: video-poster, poster of scientific lecture.
  2. In the poster modality, participants should send in advance an abstract of the work. Posters should be 1.20 X 0.80 m. An abstract of the lectures should also be sent to the Scientific Committee.

Social Activities

  • Tour to historic and cultural sites in Havana and Varadero
  • Visit to Senior Adults Homes in Havana
  • Night clubs for Senior Adults

 

Awarding and Evaluation of the Events

Awards will be given to the first 3 places in each of the activities. The country that wins more points in total will be the overall winner.

 

Points per place:

  • 1st place         10 points
  • 2nd place        9 points
  • 3rd place         8 points

 

Final Scoring

Winning countries will be selected upon the basis of the total points reached.
