ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this study was comparison between heart structure and function of Iranian women،s national handball and karate athletes.
For this purpose, 12 national handball players with mean age of 22.44±4.06 yr and mean weight of 59.1±6.68w and mean height of 167.6±3.75H and 8 national karate athlete with mean age of 23.3±3.41yr and mean weight of 61.4±5.88w and mean height of 166.8±7.07H participated as subjects.
In this study, the heart structure and function was evaluated by using Echocardiography Doppler method. The structure indeteses were include left ventricular mass(LVM), left ventricular internal diameter (LVID), wall thickness
between subsequent ventricular wall thickness and left ventricular heart and the function variables are ejection fraction (EF), stroke volume (SV), and mean blood pressure (MBP).
The analysis for testing normal distribution of data done by Klmugruf-Asmyrmuf test and the differences between the two groups was tested by independent t-Test. The percent of error was set at 5% in all cases. All of statistical procedures done with SPSS16 and EXCELL2003.

Results

There were no significant differences between handball and karate athletes in (L V mass), (L V Ed,s), (LV-IVSD), (LV-PWTD), in systolic and diastolic phases.
There were no significant differences between handball and karate athletes in (%EF), (SV), (MBP) in resting conditions.
Although we found some differences among all data, but probably due to lack of sufficient intensity and duration of exercises and simulating in energy systems in these groups, there are no significant differences between structure and function of their hearts.
